About Me
Sally Hartley
ALCM LLCM (TD) GLCM hons PGCE

After completing my A levels, I attended the London College of Music where I studied Woodwind, Piano and Voice, graduating with an Honours Degree.
In addition to a successful performing career from original and function bands to orchestral work, I have been employed all my working life by local education establishments, as an instrumental teacher and ensemble leader, teaching children in key stages 1 – 13.
I have also led and taught Whole Class Instrumental Teaching programmes, teaching the clarinet, flute and recorder to classes in Key Stage 1,2 and 3.
I have directed a number of ensembles, including Junior and Youth Wind Concert bands. In 1999 I was invited to be Director of Music for the newly formed Crawley Millennium Concert Band and Crawley Millennium Voices. This was a post which I held for over ten years, conducting the band in concerts at venues both home and abroad.
In addition to my instrumental teaching, I teach singing at Stages Performing Arts, preparing students for Musical Theatre exams and auditions.

Having lived in Crawley most of my life, attended Hazelwick School and taught primarily in Crawley for over 25 years, I believe that I have an affinity with the town and its residents. As a teenager I was heavily involved in county music making ensembles and for many years was involved both on stage and in the orchestra pit for local Musical Theatre societies.

I am passionate about making instrumental tuition accessible for children and young people whatever their circumstances or ability. Every  student of mine is valued for their individual achievements and I pride myself on establishing a great rapport with each and every one of them, whilst understanding their specific learning and musical needs.

“Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones.” ― Keith Richards
