Unsure which lessons to register for?

Group lessons are a great way for children to start learning an instrument together. The emphasis is upon fun and having a good musical experience together, whilst developing basic musical and instrumental skills. Some students then remain together in a group for many years, whilst others decide that individual lessons would be more suited to their needs. I constantly monitor all my pupils progress and would always discuss the option of moving to an individual lesson if I thought it would be of benefit the student.

Individual lessons are more suitable for pupils who may benefit from a more specific attention to their work. Sometimes this is because they are progressing at a different rate to others in their group. Perhaps they wish to prepare for an exam, but the others do not. Sometimes children who need a bit of extra support with their learning benefit from the one-to-one attention that an individual lesson allows. Some children simply do not feel happy learning their instrument in a group environment.

20 minutes is a really good length of time and a lot can be achieved. Younger children respond well to this lesson duration.

30 minute lessons are better for the older or more advanced student who may have a broader range of skills and repertoire to cover in a lesson.

Invoices will be sent one month in advance and cover every week of the school term(excluding Half Terms and public holidays) Lessons must be paid for before the first lesson of the month takes place.

Do I need to buy my child an instrument?

No, not unless you would like to do so. There are a number of options available for obtaining an instrument - hire schemes, rent to buy schemes, purchase of 2nd hand instruments or buying a new instrument. I can advise you on all of these options and help you to find the best one for you. One word of advice - I strongly recommend that you seek advice before purchasing a cheap make of instrument as many of these are very poor quality and will do nothing to help your child's progress! I believe that working with parents and children from the start of their instrumental learning is the key to best progress and I am always happy to help and advise.

I currently have a number of clarinets for hire for the cost of £13 per month. Hire of flutes may be possible - please ask.

What else will I need to provide?

In addition to needing an instrument, your child will need a tutor book and some basic instrument accessories, depending on the instrument. Again, I am very happy to help you source these and can give you all the information you need. As a parent myself, I understand how  acquiring equipment for a new hobby can seem like a daunting task.
